About the experience

Come over for an authentic Bengali meal.

And a little story about a dream coming alive. 🏠🍛

This Home Table isn't happening in a perfectly designed space.

There may not be an AC in the drawing room.

There isn't even a dining table.

But there will be homemade masalas, the smell of Bengali food being cooked, conversations around the room, and a table that—well—doesn't need to look like a table to bring people together.

And at the centre of it all is Debjyoti Ghosh, aka Deb.

A Bengali from Kolkata, working in Delhi, living alone away from family.

A chemical engineer working in renewable energy during the week but you'll probably find him hopping cafés or cooking on weekends.

During one of our reflection circles on the Becoming Konkan–Goa Trip 2026, Deb spoke about something he wanted to do someday.

He wanted to run a café.

Quiet.

Unmarketed.

Not trying too hard to be anything.

But somehow known for its food.

And while he spoke about it, he was also buying spices everywhere we went. 😄

Naturally, the fellow trippers did what communities are supposed to do when someone shares a dream: we refused to let him leave it as just a thought.

“Cook for us at your place first,” we insisted.

He did, the very first weekend after the trip.

And his attention to detail was impeccable.

He makes his own masalas freshly.

He doesn't fusion-ise dishes for the sake of making them fancy.

He cooks food the way he believes it should be cooked.

And so, we pushed him a little more.

Host a Home Table.

His response: “But I don't even have an AC in my drawing room. Or a dining table.”

And that's exactly what makes this a Home Table.

Because everyone who has ever lived alone knows this feeling.

You don't always wait to have the perfect home, the perfect furniture, the perfect setup or the perfect moment before inviting people into your life.

So finally, we convinced Deb to cook for us.

Here's what Deb is cooking:

🍵 Darjeeling Tea

Tea leaves sourced from a tea factory in Darjeeling

🥭Aam Panna

A refreshing raw mango cooler with mint and spices.

🟡 Dal Bora (veg)

Crispy, spiced Bengal lentil fritters made with soaked red lentils, onions, and green chilies

🧅 Peyaj Posto (veg)

A delicate onion and poppy seed paste tempered with green chilli.

🐟 Sorshe Ilish(non veg)

Hilsa fish in a classic mustard gravy, fragrant and bold.

🌧️ Brishtir Diner Khichuri (veg)

Bengali monsoon Khichuri made with fragrant gobindobhog rice, moong dal, and seasonal vegetables, tempered with whole spices.

🍚 Gobindobhog Rice (veg)

Fragrant Bengali short-grain rice, soft, light, and aromatic.

🍅 Tomato Khejur Chutney (veg)

A sweet and tangy chutney made with tomato and dates.

🍬 Rosogolla (veg)

Soft, spongy cottage cheese dumplings in light sugar syrup

🤍 Sondesh (veg)

Soft, delicate cottage cheese sweet

Not just authentic food.

An authentic home.

And perhaps a little reminder of the purity of dreaming without immediately meeting that dream with hesitation, logistics, and self-doubt.

So come, let's make this happen for this Bhodrolok! 💛

What is The Home Table by Alter Ego Community?

The Home Table is an experience series by Alter Ego Community, created around a simple idea:

Some of the best food stories are hiding in people's homes.

Across India, there are people in our community who carry recipes, traditions and flavours that aren't always found in restaurant menus.

The Home Table invites these Hidden Chef alter egos to open their doors and share them.

Not as chefs.

 Not as restaurateurs.

As people sharing a part of where they come from.

Each edition will bring you into a different home, a different cuisine, and a different story.
