Delhi to Orchha

About the experience

Every extended weekend after the monsoon, it feels like the mountains are calling everyone.

And then you end up spending half the trip in traffic.

So this Gandhi Jayanti extended weekend, we're taking a different road.

No crowded hill stations.

And no Rajasthan either.

Instead, we're driving towards Orchha—a small historic town in Madhya Pradesh filled with magnificent palaces, ancient temples, royal cenotaphs and the quiet beauty of the Betwa River.

And because this is an Alter Ego trip, getting there will be part of the experience too.

What is this trip about?

This is a luxury heritage road trip from Delhi to Orchha via Agra and Gwalior, designed for people who enjoy discovering India—and the people they travel with.

We'll travel together in a comfortable Urbania, with music, Antakshari, ice-breakers, games, conversations, and the kind of road-trip moments that usually become the stories you remember afterwards.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Delhi → Agra → Gwalior → Orchha

We start our road trip from Delhi and head towards our first very important stop.

Breakfast in Agra.

Bedmi Puri and Aloo Sabzi.

Because some experiences deserve to begin with good food.

From Agra, we continue towards the historic city of Gwalior.

Our stop here is the spectacular Gwalior Fort, one of India's grandest and most historic hill forts. We'll explore the fort and its remarkable architecture, including the magnificent Man Singh Palace, ancient temples, and centuries of stories hidden within its walls.

After lunch in Gwalior, we get back on the road.

The journey continues towards Orchha with music, games, conversations and plenty of opportunities to get to know the people you're travelling with.

By evening, we arrive in Orchha.

We'll check into our beautiful heritage palace stay, settle in and spend the evening together over food, games, and conversations.

A new place.

A new group of people.

And two days ahead of us.

Day 2 | Exploring the Royal Town of Orchha

Orchha may be a small town, but its history is anything but small.

Once the capital of the Bundela Rajput kingdom, Orchha is filled with palaces, temples and monuments that make you feel as though you've stepped into another century.

Orchha Fort Complex

We'll explore the beautiful Orchha Fort Complex, including:

  • Jehangir Mahal – the grand palace built in honour of Emperor Jehangir

  • Raja Mahal – known for its beautiful murals and royal architecture

  • Rai Praveen Mahal – connected to the fascinating story of the poet and musician Rai Praveen

There will be corridors to wander through, courtyards to sit in and plenty of corners worth discovering.

Temples of Orchha

We'll also explore some of Orchha's most iconic temples, including:

  • Ram Raja Temple

  • Chaturbhuj Temple

  • Lakshmi Narayan Temple

Everywhere you look, Orchha seems to have another story waiting.

The Chhatris/Cenotaphs of Orchha

As the day unfolds, we'll head towards one of Orchha's most beautiful landscapes—the royal cenotaphs, or Chhatris, along the Betwa River.

Standing against the sky, these grand structures create one of the most memorable views in Orchha.

Walk around.

Take photographs.

Sit by the river.

Or simply do nothing for a while.

Optional: Betwa River Rafting

For those who would like to add a little adventure to the day, there may be an optional river rafting experience on the Betwa River, subject to weather, river conditions and availability.

Everything is optional.

You decide your pace.

Do all of it, or a slow afternoon in a beautiful place sounds equally good.

The evening brings us back together for food, conversations, and whatever spontaneous plans the group comes up with.

Day 3 | Orchha → Jhansi → Gwalior → Vrindavan → Delhi

Our final morning begins slowly.

Breakfast at our heritage stay.

One last walk around.

One last moment in Orchha before we pack our bags and begin the journey back.

Our first stop is Jhansi Fort, where we'll explore the historic fort associated with the legendary Rani Lakshmibai.

From Jhansi, we continue towards Gwalior for lunch.

And then comes one final food stop before Delhi.

Vrindavan.

And yes.

Chaat.

Because every good road trip deserves a memorable ending.

With full stomachs, tired bodies, too many photographs and hopefully a few new friendships, we finally make our way back to Delhi.
